A busy few weeks in the workshop since Christmas. Plenty of new orders coming in and I’ve also found time to get out cutting shanks for next year. Its always enjoyable searching through woodland looking for that perfect specimen. To date I have cut approximately three hundred hazel shanks and a few prized holly shanks. All will need to season for twelve months prior to straightening ready for next year.
I’ve been fortunate to have acquired large amounts of rams horns this winter. Again, these will need to be seasoned and dried for at least twelve months prior to use. The reason being if they haven’t completely dried they tend not to retain their shape when bent into the desired form .
